BREVARD COUNTY • INDIALANTIC, FLORIDA – When Indialantic police stopped Aivanka Grilletto of West Melbourne just before 9 a.m. this morning it seemed like a routine traffic stop, according to Sgt. Mike Casey.
After giving her license to police Grilletto drove off and fled. Indialantic police pursued the vehicle for a short period before terminating the pursuit.
“The officer already had his lights activated, and pursued the vehicle until Paradise Park,” Sgt. Mike Casey said.
“At that time it was called off due to traffic and weather.”
Sgt. Casey said a Brevard County Sherriff’s Deputy also picked up the pursuit, and the Deputy also terminated their pursuit in Indian Harbor Beach for the same safety concerns.
DRIVER CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED FLEEING TO ELUDE
After traveling north on A1A through Indialantic, Indian Harbor Beach and Satellite Beach, Grilletto crashed just north of Hightower Beach.
Firefighters on scene reported the driver was ejected. A medical helicopter was requested, but firefighters decided to ground transport Grilletto instead.
Satellite Beach police are handling the vehicle crash investigation and the Indialantic Police Department has charged Grilletto with Aggravated Fleeing to Elude and Resisting Arrest Without Violence.
Grilletto is currently in custody at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne. Her condition was not immediately known.
