Evelyn A. Dunn, 81, Passed Away On Sept. 27

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Evelyn A. Dunn, 81, a loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on 27 September 2013 and now joins her son, James; sister, Frances; brothers, John and Charles; and parents, Marie Madden and Maj. Thomas Madden, a World War I Army veteran, who rests in Arlington National Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Howard; sister, Margaret, of Sayville, NY; over 50 nieces and nephews; her children, Dr. Margaret Dunn (Dr. William Spohn), of Yellow Springs, Ohio; Marie Lee (John), of Satellite Beach, Florida; Michael Dunn (Adrienne Robba), of Rome, Italy; and grandchildren, Christopher and Marie Spohn, of Yellow Springs, Ohio; and Thomas, Robert, and Daniel Lee, of Satellite Beach, Florida.
Evelyn was born 22 November 1932 in Baldwin, New York. Evelyn attended various parochial schools on Long Island and Bermuda. Howard is a graduate of St. John’s University in New York and they married in 1953. Evelyn earned degrees in English and History at Stony Brook University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa.
Evelyn and Howard settled on the south shore of Long Island, in Oakdale, and enjoyed spending summers with their children on the beaches of Robert Moses State Park and Fire Island. Also, during her time on Long Island, Evelyn attended or hosted christenings and weddings for many of her 50 nephews and nieces.
Howard was employed by Northrop Grumman, formally Grumman Corporation, for 34 years, retiring as Corporate Vice President of Ethics and Audit. Evelyn and Howard enjoyed golfing, including five trips to Ireland and Scotland, and were members of St. Georges Golf Club in Stony Brook, NY as well as Suntree and Cocoa Beach in Florida. Evelyn always enjoyed reading and knitting.
Her knitted sweaters, afghans and baby blankets will continue to be treasured for years to come.
In her most recent 15 years in Satellite Beach, Evelyn continued her love of the ocean by living with Howard at Monaco Condominiums on A1A, on the beach; and cheered on her grandchildren at countless games for the South Beach Seahawks, Satellite Lightning Soccer, Satellite Little League, Satellite High Wrestling, Satellite High Lacrosse, and Satellite High Football.
Visitation hours will be held at Beach Funeral Homes – East, Indian Harbour Beach, on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 from 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 10am.
Burial will immediately follow at Florida Memorial Gardens, Rockledge.
