Brevard Humane Society Releases May Calendar of Events

Volunteer Orientation starts May 2

• Saturday, May 2
Shelter Volunteer Orientation at the Humane Society – 1020 Cox Road, Cocoa, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The Brevard Humane Society is looking for dedicated individuals or groups (must be 16 years of age or older to participate in the orientation program) who care about the welfare of animals.
Volunteering opportunities are available at their Adoption Centers in Cocoa & Merritt Island, the Molly Mutt Thrift Shops (Melbourne, Merritt Island, Palm Bay and Rockledge), and the “Low Cost” Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic, or as a “Society Ambassador” during community outreach/off-site events.
Volunteer activities may include walking dogs, socializing cats, grooming animals, shelter beautification projects; as well as retail help at the thrift shops and assisting with community education and adoption events. The Humane Society is always looking for volunteers with grant writing, fundraising, clerical and animal handling/obedience training experience.
Pre-registration is required. All volunteer applications must be completed prior to the start of the Volunteer Orientation Program.
During orientation, please wear long pants (no shorts), and closed toed shoes (no flip flops).

Adoptable Pets Event at the Orchid Show
Kiwanis Island Park, 951 Kiwanis Island Park Road, Merritt Island, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Brevard Humane Society will be there with shelter dogs available for adoption, merchandise and fun educational information about responsible pet ownership.
Proceeds from this event will help to raise awareness and financial support for the “unwanted and abandoned” pets that visit the Humane Society’s Adoption Centers in Cocoa and Merritt Island each year, who need a safe and loving “forever” home.

4th Annual “Cinco de Critters” at El Charro to Benefit the Brevard Humane Society – 916 Florida Avenue, Cocoa, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
El Charro Fine Mexican Food, located at 916 Florida Avenue in Cocoa will be hosting the 4th Annual “Cinco de Critters”, a fundraiser to benefit the Brevard Humane Society on Thursday, May 7, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Event activities will include a “Barkarita” Yappy Hour, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a silent auction.
The Humane Society will receive 15 percent of the proceeds from this event that will be used to help raise awareness and financial support for the “unwanted and abandoned” pets that visit the Humane Society’s Adoption Centers in Cocoa and Merritt Island each year, who need a safe and loving “forever” home.

Pet’s Paw Readings at the Humane Society’s Merritt Island Adoption Center – 155 Pioneer Road, Merritt Island, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Have you ever wondered what your pet is thinking or how he/she is feeling?
If so, stop by the Humane Society’s Merritt Island Adoption Center on Saturday, May 16th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and have your pet’s “paw” read ($10 for a 15-minute session) by Ellen Doreen, a pet psychic.
Ms. Doreen is a gifted psychic with more than 30 years of experience. Her spiritual approach with dogs and cats can help pet parents understand what their “furry companions” are thinking and/or feeling.

The Brevard Humane Society, the Merritt Island Adoption Center, the (4) Molly Mutt Thrift Stores and the “Low Cost” Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on May 25.
• Saturday, May 30
Foo Dog Days – Foo Bar, 816 E. New Haven Avenue, Historic Downtown Melbourne, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
On Saturday, May 30, the Brevard Humane Society and Foo Bar, located at 816 E. New Haven Avenue in Historic Downtown Melbourne will be hosting “Foo Dog Days”, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
This monthly event will feature adoptable animals from the Humane Society at both Foo Bar and the Humane Society’s Molly Mutt II Thrift Shop (located a half a block west of the bar), complimentary hors d’oeuvres & doggie treats, raffles, drink specials and much, much more.
Admission is free and all animals must be on a leash and have proof of current shots along with a county tag.
The Humane Society will also be there providing the public with fun educational information about responsible pet ownership and will have merchandise available for purchase.
