PHOTO OF THE DAY: Picture Shows Raccoon On Top Of A Gator At Ocala National Forest

OCALA, FLORIDA – This picture was taken by a man who was looking at alligators with his family, when his son startled a raccoon they couldn’t see. 

Richard Jones from Palatka, Florida said that he and his family were walking along the Ocklawaha River in Ocala National Forest over the weekend when he shot the viral photo.

Jones said his son may have frightened the raccoon, who ran towards the water and jumped on a gator that happened to be lurking near land.

“I snapped a lucky picture right when the gator slipped into the water and before the raccoon jumped off and scurried away. Without the context you’d think the raccoon was hitching a ride across the river. Pretty amazing,” Jones told to WFTV.

“Definitely the photo of a lifetime.”
