Kathleen LaPorte, senior general manager of VITAS Healthcare of Brevard, has spent more than 30 years working in hospice services and understands the need for caring, compassion and giving back to the community.
And that’s exactly why she and VITAS have supported the Doctor’s Goodwill Foundation (DGF) since 2007. LaPorte said they share DGF’s mission of educating and supporting healthcare workers around the world while making a difference in their local community.
As the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care services, VITAS too is dedicated to ensuring that everyone understands their right to access quality end-of-life care when needed. Through their charitable foundation, monies are raised to help local residents and organizations with financial assistance.
LaPorte says that organizations like the DGF are important because they not only have a global vision to serve others, but a local reach that truly supports our local communities. As an example, DGF has provided more than 11 scholarships for residents pursuing an education in healthcare each year. They have also sponsored free flu vaccines through the Department of Health and help people across the world that fall victim to natural disasters.
She adds that she feels fortunate to work for VITAS, doing what she loves and having the chance to make a difference in so many people’s lives at some of the most difficult times of their lives.
“I’m also proud that VITAS can partner with local organizations, like DGF, to further their mission and allow us to be a contributor to the overall wellbeing of the community,” she added.
