BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested District 4 School Board candidate Dean Paterakis, 48, of Melbourne on Tuesday evening for Disrupting a School Function and Resisting an Officer Without Violence.
According to Cpl. Dave Jacobs of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, during a regularly scheduled Brevard County School Board meeting dealing with LGBT issues, Paterakis began to use inappropriate language during a public forum.
After the school board made several requests for him to discontinue this language, the school board security requested Paterakis to discontinue and leave the meeting.
When Paterakis refused, Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputies were asked to have Paterakis leave the building, who then refused several lawful orders to leave the premises by uniformed Deputies.
“In a further effort to intentionally refuse the orders, Paterakis protested by dropping to the ground and continued verbally disrupting the function of the School Board meeting,” said Cpl. Jacobs in a release.
Deputies were then forced to carry Paterakis out of the building. Only after he was taken into custody and removed from the building was the school board meeting able to resume.
Paterakis was transported to the Brevard County Jail where he is being held on a $1,000 bond.
