Our goal is success! We strive to achieve nothing less with every student. Whether your child is currently struggling with school or is looking for an academic program that will challenge them, FPA’s individualized curriculum will promote success.

Here are a few reasons we think that Florida Preparatory Academy stands apart from other boarding and day schools:

Our Academic Program

Florida Preparatory Academy has achieved 100% college acceptance since 1978. Each year, FPA seniors are accepted into the colleges and universities of their choice. In the past three years, our seniors have earned more than $4 million dollars in scholarships.

Great effort is made to ensure that students are aware of the multitude of opportunities available to them upon graduation from FPA. For students who struggle with classwork, we offer free after-school teacher help, an Academic Assistance program, private tutoring and mandatory nightly study halls for boarding students.

The Director of the Guidance Department also oversees the administration of college admissions tests such as the SAT, ACT, and TOEFL. SAT Preparation courses are offered each semester to provide students with ample opportunity to prepare for and improve their scores on this critically important test.

Our People

Our dedicated faculty and staff get to know your child personally, and many have earned their Master’s Degree. With class sizes that average 13 students, every boy and girl is given the attention they need and deserve. As a relatively small private college-prep academy, FPA’s caring faculty has the time to focus on each and every student, and will go out of their way to support and encourage them.

Family Atmosphere

Florida Preparatory Academy is under the day-to-day leadership of the Dwight Family, whose father founded the school in 1961. This is one of the reasons why so many people notice the family atmosphere the moment they walk onto campus. This deep feeling of “family” is also supported by the fact that 15% of our faculty live on school grounds, and virtually all staff members send their own children to FPA.

Our boarding environment promotes strong U.S. and international friendships that will last a lifetime. Previous graduates dating back five decades frequently get together and many have continued lasting friendships that enhance the quality of their daily lives.

Structure

Our students are held to high standards of personal responsibility and accountability. In addition, the elective AFJROTC program provides our students opportunities to demonstrate leadership and self-discipline. The Academy’s unit (FL-032) has been an “Honor Unit” for a number of years, which places FPA in the top 20% of all AFJROTC units across the country.

We are very proud of this designation and continually strive to maintain our Honor Unit status. The objectives of United States Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (AFJROTC) are to educate and train high school students in citizenship, promote community service, instill responsibility, character, and self-discipline, and provide instruction in air and space fundamentals.

International Education

One-third of our students come from countries all over the world with 23 countries and 20 states are represented within our student body. The benefits of learning alongside students from diverse cultures are well known and documented. As our world shrinks and globalization continues, the advantages of first-hand knowledge of international cultures and languages will put your son our daughter in a competitive position, regardless of what industry they strive to enter. Every day is an international day at FPA!

Location

One of the first things you notice when you step foot onto Florida Preparatory Academy’s beautiful campus is the unique blend of tropical foliage and Spanish style architecture. The school is just two miles from the Atlantic Ocean and a short drive to the Kennedy Space Center where you can get an up close and personal view of the Mercury, Apollo and recently retired Space Shuttle vehicles. The intimacy with the space program is what gives our local area the name “America’s Space Coast”!

The 53-year old Academy is about an hour away from the most famous theme parks in the world. Our students frequently visit Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World, to name a few. In addition, there are nearby restaurants and shopping malls, theaters and Melbourne’s historic downtown shopping village. All of these things combined make Florida Preparatory Academy’s location truly unique and exciting.
