LAKELAND, FLORIDA (WESH) – An alligator attacked a man who jumped into a lake while running from police Wednesday in Polk County.

According to police, deputies were searching for Jessie Kingsinger, 21, in the area of Long Lake Circle after his mother called and said he needed psychological help.

The woman said she wanted her son taken into custody under the Baker Act.

The woman told police Kingsinger had wandered into a wooded area behind their apartment.

Police said Kingsinger was missing three quarters of his left forearm when he was found.
