VIDEO: Brevard Cultural Alliance Introduces 1,600 Children To The World Of Art

ABOVE VIDEO: Highlights from the 2015-16 Brevard Cultural Alliance (BCA) program with some of the 14 participating Brevard County Schools.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA –Brevard Cultural Alliance (BCA), the professional organization representing the arts and cultural sector on Florida’s Space Coast, in partnership with Brevard Schools Foundation, and with funding from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, facilitated 14 Next Generation Artist Residencies benefiting about 1,600 students during the 2015-2016 school year.

Artist Residencies embeds professional artists into Brevard schools to enrich teacher curriculum.

BCA’s Next Generation Artist Residencies seek to enhance not only participants’ artistic skills, but overall academic performance, fostering capacities for creativity and innovation, and equipping them with transferable life skills.

BCA’s artist residencies are not exclusively oriented to activity teachers, (visual arts, music, dance, etc.) but any educator interested  in exploring the possibilities of arts integration and its potential to add innovation to instruction.

The 14 participating Brevard County Schools were:

DeLaura Middle School, Satellite Beach

Golfview Elementary Magnet School, Rockledge

Imperial Estates Elementary School (Title 1), Titusville

Jupiter Elementary (Title 1), Palm Bay

Longleaf Elementary, Melbourne

Oak Park Elementary (Title 1), Titusville

Palm Bay Elementary (Title 1), Palm Bay

Pinewood Elementary (Title 1), Mims

Riviera Elementary (Title 1), Palm Bay

Sculptor Charter School, Titusville

Southwest Middle School, Palm Bay

Stone Magnet Middle School, Melbourne

Sunrise Elementary (Title 1), Palm Bay

Suntree Elementary, Melbourne

Some of these residencies, led by professional artists, focused on the arts and technology aspect of STEAM learning. Any Brevard County teacher or school may apply for the program.
