Little League Report: Indian River City To Represent District 22 In Juniors Section 3

District 22 Pool Play Continued In Major and Junior Baseball Divisions Sunday

PORT ST. JOHN 25, INDIAN RIVER CITY 22: In the first game, Indian River City Little League battled Port St. John Little League for 6 full innings. Indian River City’s Austin Raulerson hit two 2-run homers. For Port St. John, Andrew Diaz-Yant and Ryan Vite had 2-run homers, Cody Milholland hit a solo home run and Tyler Stienbaugh had a 3-run homer.
Mikey Baungardner had a 3-run homer, 2 solo home runs and scored an additional run as the game rolled into the bottom of the 6th tied at 22. Mikey Baumgardner struck again with a walk-off 3-run home rum to lead Port St. John to a 25-22 win.
MIMS 14, ROCKLEDGE 4: The late game saw Rockledge Little League’s Abe Gonzales go 2-for-3 while scoring once. Mims Little League had a triple from Evan Pavick while Noah Lewis went 3-for-3 at the plate and scored twice. Jackson Nix hit a game winning double which drove home 2 runs for the Mims 14-4 win in 5 innings.
Junior Baseball
INDIAN RIVER CITY 10, ROCKLEDGE 0: Junior Baseball continued at W. W. James Park on Sunday with Rockledge taking on the home team from Indian River City. Offense was scarce for Rockledge with leadoff hitter Paul Katz managing the only hit in the top of the 5th inning. Indian River City started the game off with 5 runs in the top of the 1st inning. IRC would plate 5 more runs in the game and go on to a 10-0 win in 5 innings. Mike Simonello pitched 3 strong innings and struck out 4 for the win.
Between games the monsoon set in and the second game of the afternoon was moved to Holder Park in Mims.
MIMS 11, MERRITT ISLAND 9: Game 2 would be between the visitors from Mims and the home team North Merritt Island. Gavin O’Brien led off the game for Mims with a single and came in to score on a RBI base hit by Colton Gelinas. North Merritt Island would answer back in the bottom of the 1st with 3 runs of their own. North Merritt Island would increase their lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Farrow led the charge with a double and 2 RBI to give his team a 7-2 lead.
Mims would close the gap in the 3rd. Doubles by Gavin O’Brien and Ryan Minnear set up a 2-run double by Brett Clark to make the score 7-5. The teams would trade runs back and forth until the 6th inning when Mims would tie the score at 9 apiece on a 2-run base hit by Ryan Minnear. The game would go into extra innings. Mims would plate 2 runs on errors in the 8th inning and their defense would make the lead hold in the bottom half for an 11-9 win. Colton Coffel pitched two innings in relief for Mims to pick up the win.
Major and Junior Baseball Divisions Finished Up Pool Play Monday Night
INDIAN RIVER 9, MIMS 2: Over at Mims’ Holder Park, the Major baseball All-Stars from Indian River City Little League met Mims Little League in a game that would go extra innings. Indian River City scored first with an RBI double by Austin Raulerson in the top of the 4th inning.Blake Lind tied the score in the bottom of the 6th at 2. The score remained tied into the 8th inning where Josh Davis’s solo home run put Indian River City ahead by 1 and Luke Hightower’s 3-run homer sealed the win for at 9-2 in 8 complete innings.
INDIAN RIVER CITY 18, MIMS 5: Junior Baseball finished up at Indian River City’s W.W. James Park where Indian River City Little League (visitor) faced Mims Little League. The game in the Juniors division was a winner-move-on for the District 22 Championship.
IRC jumped out to a 2 run lead in the top of the 1st inning. Jason Woodward and Brady Guthrie started with singles and came in to score on a base hit by Trevor Leeds. Mims would battle back with a run in the 2nd inning on errors and tied the game in the 3rd on a RBI single by Gavin O’Brien. IRC would take a one run lead in the 5th when Leeds doubled and scored on a single by Robbie O’Bryan.
IRC would bat around in the 6th inning. O’Bryan would again drive in a run with a single and Nick Mackiewicz would pick up a RBI on a bases loaded walk. Mims would rally back in the bottom of the 6th and score 3 runs on RBI singles by Colton Gelinas and Dawson Martin to close the gap to 8-5. The top of the 7th would see IRC pull away with 10 runs. Preston Mauzy, Jason Woodward, John Hernandez and Bobby Guthrie all picked up RBIs to put the game out of reach at 18-5. Jason Woodward pitched into the 6th inning to get the win for IRC. Indian River City will represent District 22 in the Juniors Section 3 tournament on Saturday in Deltona.
The next games will be played on Saturday.
