BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA –The Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is among state agencies reminding parents, guardians and community members to make sure that Florida’s students start the year off right by taking advantage of the tax holiday.
DJJ points out that research shows children and teens who stay in school are less likely to make contact with the juvenile justice system. In fact, having problems at school is considered a major risk factor for criminal offending, the department claims.
“Education is a key factor in keeping kids out of the juvenile justice system and being prepared is critical to their academic success,” DJJ Secretary Christina K. Daly said in a written press statement.
“Each new school year can mean a fresh start for all of Florida’s children; therefore, I encourage all Florida residents to make sure the children in their lives have the tools they need to thrive.”
During this period, no Florida sales tax or local option tax will be collected on sales of clothing, footwear, and certain accessories selling for $60 or less per item, on certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item.
