Rockledge Senior Awarded $1,500 Scholarship By Florida State League Scholarship Committee

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Amara Simmons of Rockledge is one of 12 winners of a $1,500 scholarship awarded by the Florida State League Scholarship Committee, being selected as the winner for the Brevard County Manatees.

Simmons, who was presented the scholarship at the Manatees game on July 27, is an incoming senior at Rockledge High School where she is a member of the track and field team, Academics Club (Delta Phi), Academy of Hospitality and Tourism and the Key Club. After graduation, she says that she plans to attend a four-year university, where she will look to pursue a law degree.

“I am very grateful for having this opportunity” Simmons said.

“Being awarded this scholarship will make it easier to pursue my educational goals.”

The award is based both on financial need and grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students eligible for this award must be an employee of, or the child or grandchild of an employee of the participating club and must be at least a high school junior by the 2016 fall term. Simmons has been employed as a member of the Manatees’ day of game staff at Space Coast Stadium since the beginning of the 2016 season.

“It has been a joy to have Amara join us as a part of our staff this season.” Manatees General Manager Chad Lovitt said.

“Her work ethic is second to none and she is poised for a bright future, both athletically and academically.”

The Miami Marlins have sponsored the scholarship program for 17 years and have contributed a total of $172,500. Scholarship winners were invited to attend the Marlins game on July 31 at Marlins Park, where they were recognized during pregame ceremonies.
