Florida Tech’s Treat or Treat Set For October 29, Offers Free Halloween Fun for All

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Institute of Technology’s Department of Residence Life is holding a Halloween event Saturday, Oct. 29, that features three movie-themed haunted houses, bounce houses and other inflatables, booths from campus groups and community vendors, and of course lots of sweet treats.
Treat or Treat is free of charge and open to the general public. It runs from 2-6 p.m. at the university’s Residence Hall Quad off Country Club Road in Melbourne.
Three residence halls will feature walk-though experiences with movie themes, each a bit scarier than the other. All will have some dark areas, loud noises and theatrical effects.
• Wood Hall will be decorated for Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens. It is appropriate for all ages.
•Campbell Hall will have a Pirates of the Caribbean theme and is considered appropriate for ages 7 and up.
• Evans Hall will be the scariest. Decorated around the movie Suicide Squad, this one will feature jump scares and students in costume chasing visitors, in addition to other elements. It is appropriate for children 11 and older.
Children will not be denied access to any of the halls based on age, though they will be warned about the scariness level.
The Quad lawn will feature other things to do: Booths offering games and activities, an array of inflatables, and a costume contest with prizes and music. More than a dozen clubs have confirmed their participation in the event.
Orchestrated by Florida Tech’s 55 resident assistants and five resident directors and utilizing the help of dozens of students living in the residence halls, Treat or Treat is one of three major annual events staged by the Department of Residence Life, according to Zachary Eichholz, resident director of the Quad who oversees Treat or Treat.
For Resident Life staff and students, Treat or Treat provides useful experiences and the satisfaction of giving back to the community, Eichholz said. And it’s just plain fun to do.
“We’re happy to be able to offer families and their children a safe, fun and educational environment,” he said. “Come out and have a good time!”
