BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Families are encouraged to come celebrate the opening of a much-anticipated new playground — the first of its kind in Brevard County — at Riverview Park “Play-A-Palooza,” today from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

In addition to entertainment and refreshments, park visitors will also get a chance to show their support for the ongoing revitalization and rejuvenation of Riverview Park.

During the dedication ceremony, the city will formally kick off “Pickets for Park” – a new fundraising program that will give park lovers a chance to help accelerate planned park improvements by purchasing a customized engraved picket ($100.00) for the fence surrounding the park’s new playground.

The Pickets for Parks initial fundraising goal of $30,000 will be put toward the installation of decorative fencing and new restroom facilities for playground visitors.

The new playground is the first phase of a multi-year master plan that Melbourne City Council adopted in 2014 to restore and improve the 16-acre park. The city expects to complete installation of five 20’ x 20’ shade canopies around the playground, renovate the existing pavilion and restore the shoreline by the end of 2016. Future improvements include a paved pedestrian multi-use trail, children’s splash park, fishing pier, and sand volleyball courts.

These improvements are intended to transform the under-used park into a recreational destination and economic driver for the entire community.
