FIT Basketball Players Sam Daniel, Julie McCarthy Named Mike Erdman Auto Group Athletes of the Week

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Women’s basketball’s Julie McCarthy and men’s basketball’s Sam Daniel have been named Mike Erdman Auto Group Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of Dec. 12–19.

McCarthy posted a pair of strong outings for FIT at the Palm Beach Atlantic Holiday Hoops Classic. The senior recorded a double-double on 25 points and 10 rebounds to go along with two blocks in helping keep the Panthers in the game late in a 68-61 defeat to No. 4 Bellarmine on Sunday.

The Honefoss, Norway product was one rebound shy of a second straight double-double in Monday’s 64-53 loss to Shaw, notching 11 points, nine rebounds and two steals.

Following Monday’s action, McCarthy was named to the Holiday Hoops Classic All-Tournament Team.

Daniel had two impressive performances to lead the Panthers to a 2-0 record in the Florida Tech Winter Classic.

The Kingsland, Georgia native tallied 24 points, nine rebounds and four assists in FIT’s 89-77 victory over Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. He came back the next game to drop 32 points, 21 of which from beyond the arc, to help Florida Tech return from a halftime deficit and pull away late with a 99-77 victory over Point.

Daniel also pulled down 12 rebounds against the Skyhawks to complete the double-double.

After the holiday break, both basketball teams return to Sunshine State Conference action against Lynn on Friday, Dec. 30, in Boca Raton, Florida.
