VIDEO: SeaWorld’s Newest Show, ‘Dolphin Days’ Packed With Fun, Education and Inspiration

ORLANDO, FLORIDA – SeaWorld Orlando launched this spring its newest theatrical experience, Dolphin Days.

Designed to replace the long-running and very popular Blue Horizons, Dolphin Days is a super-charged performance that offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the distinct relationships and special bonds that exist between the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and their animal behaviorists (trainers).

The stars of Dolphin Days include nine male dolphin performers that range in age from 16-year-old and very playful “Tiger” to 39-year-old “Starbuck,” who is revered as the patriarch of the group.

In collaboration with their trainers, these majestic and graceful creatures deliver an incredible performance packed with amazing behaviors and stunning displays of athleticism.

According to Laura Surovik, SeaWorld Orlando’s zoological manager of Dolphin Theater, “The way we shape the dolphins’ behaviors is through positive reinforcement. And there are a number of different types of reinforcement aside from food, such as using toys for play and good, old-fashioned belly rubs.”

“The dolphins are extremely affectionate.”

“Each one has his or her own personality, and when it comes to training, you need to find out what works best for each individual dolphin. There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to shaping behaviors.”

The Dolphin Days show culminates in a variety of ways, one of which includes letting the dolphins have an opportunity to relax and play with their favorite toys.

This exemplifies the dolphins’ spirited nature and offers a special look at them in their natural state.

The message of Dolphin Days is simple, yet impactful, fun, educational and inspirational. The shows powerful message includes the importance of nature and the environment.

But Dolphin Days will not be the only place to learn more about dolphins; SeaWorld’s new Dolphin Nursery is slated to open this summer and will provide an opportunity for spectators to get even closer to these elegant beings.
