City of Cocoa Beach Commissioner Skip Williams Provides Update Area On Road Projects
By Skip Williams, Commissioner, City of Cocoa Beach // June 8, 2017
MANY ROAD PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION
BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – As your Commission-appointed delegate to the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization for almost 10 years, with commission direction and approval, we have been able to initiate and implement improvements to our city.
All projects have to be studied, planned, designed and funded well in advance of implementation.
Because we don’t have any county roads and all our major roads are State roads, there is minimal expense directly to the city.
We pay Federal Income tax and State Sales taxes which have fortunately come back to us as improvements including pedestrian, bicycling and storm water enhancements.
Besides normal repaving, we’ve gotten a wide sidewalk on the beach side of A1A from the south city limit to Wakulla lane.
Currently sidewalks are being connected or added to both sides of northbound and southbound A1A as part of the repaving effort.
The Minuteman Causeway project, funded mostly by the Federal Complete Streets program, should be complete by the time you read this.

Upcoming projects of the SCTPO as their number three priority, include subtopics A through H, listed below:
Priority (3) SR A1A – Implement A1A study recommendations from Pineda Causeway to Port Canaveral
A. SR 520 & A1A Intersection improvements (Cocoa Beach)
B. SR A1A Streetscaping improvements for 4 blocks for Northbound A1A (Atlantic Avenue) and an additional 4 blocks for Southbound A1A (Orlando Avenue)
C. Sidewalk widening and replacement both sides from SR 520 to International Drive (Cape Canaveral)
D. Widen sidewalk to 8 feet from Sunflower Street to Marion Lane (A1A)
E. Install crosswalks from 1st Street South to 1st Street North (1 block North and South of Minuteman Causeway) (A1A)
F. Install curb and gutter to include parking spaces from 2nd Street North to 4th Street North SR A1A Northbound (Atlantic Ave)
G. Close Sidewalk gap from 7th Street South to 6th Street South (South Orlando)
H. Add an 8 foot Sidewalk Eastside – North Limits of Patrick AFB to 16th Street South (A1A)
Again, I thank you for the honor of serving as your commissioner.
