BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – This week, Cocoa Beach Karate school continued its history of conducting karate classes and self defense seminars since 2002 on the Space Coast.
On Wednesday, students from the school conducted a seminar at the Cape Canaveral Public Library for their summer “Building a Better World Program” under Youth Services Librarian Brittany Wilson.
Cocoa Beach Karate students then headed to the Cocoa Beach Recreation Center on Thursday to conduct a similar seminar for the summer camp kids, headed by Director Laird McClean.
Altogether, more than 100 kids participated in both events. Those who completed the karate program earned a Certificate of Completion and came away armed with important information on assault prevention and some basics in self defense techniques.
“We have been offering our karate instruction to local Space Coast summer camp kids since 2002, and we do not charge for the summer camp seminars in Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach as part of our commitment to providing community service,” said Cocoa Beach Karate sixth degree black belt sense Des Chaskelson.
Cocoa Beach Karate is a full member of the World Matsubayashi-Ryu (Shorin-Ryu) Karate-do Association (WMKA) and has been conducting classes and seminars since 2002 here on the Space Coast.
The school currently offers three classes a week at two locations including Cocoa Beach Health & Fitness, located at 1355 North Atlantic Avenue; and Cocoa Beach Recreation Center, located at 321 Ramp Road between South 5th Street and South 6th Street.
