BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA — Legacy Academy Charter School in Titusville will avoid cancellation of its contract and will open to students beginning on the first day of school, Aug. 10.
“The charter school faced termination of its contract as of Friday Aug. 4 for missing deadlines for meeting critical health and safety conditions for students and staff,” said Jennifer Wolfinger, BPS Media and Content Coordinator in a release.
However, school leaders secured a required certificate of occupancy for Legacy’s two-story educational building, passed state health inspections and met their lease’s insurance requirements by Monday Aug. 7.
Brevard Public Schools Superintendent Desmond Blackburn pulled the proposed cancellation from the school board’s agenda and there will be no public hearing on the matter.
According to Wolfinger, BPS bears legal responsibility to ensure student safety, health and welfare at all publicly funded schools including charter schools.
