BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Support the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team at the free family-friendly weekend event set for Saturday, Feb. 24 in Palm Bay.
The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team will go head-to-head in a softball exhibition game against Brevard County Law Enforcement.
In conjunction with the game, Comprehensive Health Services will host a private event at its facility in Cape Canaveral, located at 8810 Astronaut Boulevard, on Friday, Feb. 23 featuring Col. Danny McKnight as a guest speaker.
The following day on Saturday, Feb. 24, the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team will be at Palm Bay’s Fred Poppe Regional Park, located at 1951 Malabar Road, to play a series of games.
The schedule includes the Opening Ceremonies, which will begin at 12:30 p.m., with the first game between the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department’s Enforcers and the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team starting at 1 p.m.
After an intermission, the second game pitting the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team against Team Shield 1 will begin at 2:30 p.m. The third, and final game, of the tourney, will feature the Warrior Amputee Softball Team and Team Shield 2 at 4 p.m.
Aside from the great on-field action, there will also be kids games, local business vendors, exhibits, food trucks, 50/50 drawing, and a car show.
Proceeds raised from the event will benefit the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team Annual Amputee Kids Camp. During the week-long camp, the players show children that “Life Without a Limb is Limitless.”
The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team is comprised of young, competitive, athletic veterans and active duty soldiers who have lost limbs.
The team includes individuals with a variety of amputations — of the arm, above the knee, below the knee, bilateral below knee, and foot.
The WWAST is always looking for Active Duty Military Personnel and Veterans with amputations to try out and potentially become part of our team.
