King Center for the Performing Arts Theatre for Youth Program Season Set To Begin 24th Season

Individual tickets go on sale September 7

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts Theatre for Youth Program has announced its 24th season of excellent performing arts and educational theatre opportunities for children on the Space Coast.

Since 1993, the Theatre For Youth Program formerly Educational Theatre Program was developed to cultivate an appreciation for arts and culture from infant to adult.

The program offers an array of arts and educational theatre enrichment opportunities for youth through young adult.  They would like to continue to deliver on our commitment to bring a memorable experience to our youth.

The fun begins here, with live theatre performances in music, dance, plays, interactive workshops serving area schools and families. When you purchase tickets to any of the Theatre for Youth Programs, complimentary study guides and theatre etiquette guides are available for most programs. These resources enhance and augment the theatrical experience for all ages.

THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF: Tuesday, October 23, 10:30 a.m.
Ticket Price: $10 (inclusive of fees)
Suggested audience: Grades Kindergarten through grade 3
Curriculum connections: Communication, Literature, Character Education

Nine-foot-tall giant glo-in-the-dark puppets dominate the stage in the classic, Three Billy Goats Gruff. Children will delight in the lively musical action with these larger-than-life puppets performed by the internationally acclaimed Bits ‘N Pieces Puppet Theatre. This toe-tapping musical production features towering nine-foot-tall dancing puppets, live actress Holli Rubin, and a host of other singing and dancing characters.

It is up to Bluff, Fluff and Tuff Gruff, the three goats, to cleverly cross a narrow bridge. “Trip, trap, trip, trap,” the goat’s feet go as they try to sneak across the bridge. “Who dares to cross my Bridge?” asks Upchuk the Bully Troll.

He wants no one to cross the bridge. Bluff, Fluff and Tuff must cooperate, communicate and negotiate to eat a dinner of fresh tasty green grass on the other side of the bridge. Children will be entertained while learning the true meaning of cooperation, communication, and working as a team to accomplish a task.

CHARLOTTE’S WEB: Thursday, November 1, 10:30 a.m.

Charlotte’s Web tells the story of a pig named Wilbur and his friendship with an extraordinary barn spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur is in danger of a trip to the butcher, Charlotte is determined to save him. She begins her campaign with the “miracle” of her web in which she writes, “Some Pig” to persuade the farmer to let him live.

It’s the beginning of a victorious plot which ultimately ends with the now safe Wilbur doing what is most important to Charlotte. This beautiful play about friendship, sacrifice, compassion, and bravery will weave its way into your heart and leave you totally enchanted. Based on E.B. White’s best- selling children’s paperback book of all time, Charlotte’s Web.

ERTH’S PREHISTORIC AQUARIUM ADVENTURE: Tuesday, January 22, 10:30 a.m.

The creators of Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo Live want to take your family on an all new adventure – this time to the bottom of the ocean. Erth’s Prehistoric Aquarium Adventure is an immersive experience that invites you to jump in and explore unknown ocean depths where prehistoric marine reptiles lived eons ago – and maybe live still today!

MICHEL LAUZIERE: SCIENCE OF SOUND: Tuesday, January 29, 10:30 a.m.

Michel demonstrates how he uses basic scientific laws regarding sound to build his funny contraptions and original musical instruments. In the “Science of Sound,” Michel’s hilarious homemade musical performances are punctuated with short, simple but instructional explanations about sound and how it works.

While entertaining the audience, Michel shows that his bizarre instruments are actually practical applications of the notions of frequency, amplitude, resonance, and more. An artist of universal appeal, Michel Lauzière is one of the few comedian performers who can charm and entertain audiences of all ages, all social backgrounds and all cultures. An entertaining and educational experience!

BUFFALO SOLDIER: Thursday, February 21, 10:30 a.m.

Based on the true story of our nation’s longest-surviving Buffalo Soldier and veteran of the Spanish-American
War, this dramatic play with music tells the heroic story of the brave soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalries, who
served our country well with little of the recognition they deserved.

Selected as one of the best American plays in 1996, this dramatic play features an all-male cast of performers to tell the story of some of the longest surviving soldiers of this historical era.

B-THE UNDERWATER BUBBLE SHOW: Monday, February 25, 10:30 a.m.

No age limit, just a show full of color, with a blend of drama, mime, puppetry, magic, bubbles and host of underwater characters. With the help of fictitious Mr. B, the audience will dive into the imaginary underwater world of seahorses, mermaid, starfish and others in this multimedia magical show.

THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR AND OTHER ERIC CARLE FAVORITES: Thursday, February 28, 10:30 a.m.

Blacklight and fanciful puppets, three beloved stories of this popular children’s tale unfold live on stage in this one-hour imaginative approach to storytelling. Little Cloud, The Mixed-Up Chameleon and The Very Hungry Caterpillar helps the audience realize the value in each of us.

ARTRAGEOUS: Tuesday, April 2, 10:30 a.m.

Artrageous is a one of a kind interactive performance that incorporates an array of art forms, artists and masterpieces on the same stage. The audience will experience live art, music, dance, life-sized puppetry, and get to be part of the show. Jam-packed with wild artistic inspiration aimed at all ages, join us for a unique interactive show underscored with music and various art forms that come alive on stage displaying a gallery of Artrageous life-sized paintings.

The images created are tailored to the younger demographic and include well-known pop icons. Artrageous isn’t shy about their passion for the arts and how important they are to a child’s life and development. In this full one-hour performance, Artrageous includes the students in the passion of performance and how you can work as a team to create anything.

THE GOLDEN DRAGON ACROBATS: Wednesday, April 24, 10:30 a.m.

The Golden Dragon Acrobats have performed in all fifty of the United States and will again bring their colorful and dazzling costumes, amazing feats of athleticism, daring heart-stopping stunts and the grace of their centuries-old art form to thrill audiences of all ages.
