BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – National Hurricane Center announced Monday morning that Michael has strengthened to a category 1 hurricane and it is expected to become a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) by late Tuesday.

Latest report shows Michael carrying 75 mph max sustained winds with wind gusts exceeding 100 mph.

The system is moving to the north at 7 mph.

Gov. Rick Scott declared Florida under a state of emergency on Sunday.

Currently, Michael poses no risk to Florida’s Space Coast. However, experts are advising citizens living outside the projected path of Michael to closely monitor the storm as it approaches as a precaution.

A hurricane watch is in effect for Alabama-Florida border to Suwannee River Florida.

National Hurricane Center said, “Michael will move across the eastern Gulf of Mexico Tuesday and Tuesday night, and is expected to move inland over the Florida Panhandle or Florida Big Bend area on Wednesday, and then move northeastward across the southeastern United States Wednesday night and Thursday.”
