U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida was in Mexico Beach to assess first-hand the massive destruction caused by Hurricane Michael.

Nelson has been crisscrossing the Panhandle the last two days in the wake of the monster storm. He also met with a federal medical team sent in to provide emergency care to Panama City residents.

Nelson and his Republican colleague, Sen. Marco Rubio, have assured residents they’re working to make sure federal resources flow swiftly into the area.

The two Florida senators reiterated those assurances in a letter sent today to the Secretary of the U.S. Air Force Heather Wilson. Tyndall Air Force Base sustained a catastrophic hit when the storm arrived last Wednesday.
