A Look Back at Top Auto-Related Arrests in 2018
By Space Coast Daily // December 29, 2018
The year 2018 has overstayed its welcome. Looking at the road-related news alone, this year has been filled with unfortunate accidents, controversial legal issues, and fluctuating auto-industry economy. It’s been exhausting, to say the least.
As we look back on the year, we can safely say there’s been some good news too.
This year has brought monumental moves for the autonomous vehicle industry, record electric car sales, along with more fuel-efficient, tech-integrated cars to make the roads safer. The year also covered our favorite tradition!
That tradition is looking back on the top auto-related arrests of 2018.
To be honest, we feel guilty about gossiping like a couple of gals out of a Jane Austen novel, but we do not feel guilty about referring these men and women to take traffic school online.
This year’s arrests were so bizarre, deserved, and just downright tragic, we couldn’t help but start a dialogue about it.
Vince Vaughn DUI
Vince Vaughn was arrested this year on a DUI charge. After a late night of drinking, Vaughn decided it was a good idea to drive. In case you were curious, that’s never a good idea, especially when you don’t know what happens at a DUI checkpoint, and specifically when you have another passenger in the car with you, which was Vaughn’s case.
While driving near Los Angeles, Vaughn was stopped at a DUI checkpoint and apprehended. The story suggests that Vaughn refused to exit the vehicle and failed to cooperate with officers. Not only was he charged for a DUI, but he was arrested for obstructing, delaying, and resisting arrest. So was his passenger, in case you were wondering about them.
Alec Baldwin is Short Tempered
Everyone hates waiting for a parking spot just to have it stolen last second. It’s a natural part of the crazy thing that makes us human. In Alec Baldwin’s case, he really hates it. Baldwin was waiting for a parking spot to open in Manhattan. When a spot finally became available, it was stolen last minute. This prompted Baldwin to walk up to the parking spot thief and slug him across the face.
Baldwin was later arrested on assault and harassment charges. If you’ve ever been to Manhattan, you get the frustration. Just remember to take your anger out in a healthy way that isn’t destructive to others.
Ice-T and Failure to Pay Tolls
The “T” in Ice-T stands for Tolls because that’s how he makes tolls feel when he ignores them. Ice-T was arrested earlier this year for not paying a toll road fee. Ice-T claims he forgot to place the E-Z pass on his car because he recently purchased the new vehicle.
After he was arrested, Ice-T tweeted that the “Cops went a little Extra. Could have just wrote a ticket. In and out…Moovin.’” Among other charges was Ice-T’s failure to have his car registered with local plates.
The Missouri Police Chase
Does anyone else remember the Missouri police chase earlier this year? A rustic purple van, which was carrying an assumed homicide suspect, fled police and inadvertently turned into one of the biggest police chases of the year. The most notable aspect of the chase was the van, traveling at 100 MPH, driving head-on into the wrong lane of traffic.
This caused traumatic stress for anyone traveling on the highway. Nobody was injured, except for the person driving the van. After spinning out of control, the perpetrator was arrested.
Carlos Ghosn Car Mogul Arrest
Here’s a big news story that most people didn’t read about. Technically car related, too! Carlos Ghosn, the leader of the Nissan automotive and Renault manufacturers, was arrested in Tokyo, Japan. Ghosn was arrested for deceiving police on account of a pay package.
This came at a time when tensions were high regarding the future of Nissan, Renault, and Mitsubishi brand partnerships. This ill-fitting image is a lingering embarrassment over the major car brands to this day.
