BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Cocoa high school girls track team will be on a mission Friday and Saturday in Jacksonville.

These athletes will attempt to accomplish something that no other Tigers track team before has done – bring home a state championship.

Over the years there have been individual state titles, but no team has ever won a championship.

Led by head coach Danielle O’Reilly and assistant coach and “trainer” James Folston, the Tigers are on the verge of doing something very special.

After their first-ever region championship, they carry a lot of confidence as they travel north to Jacksonville this weekend for the two-day state championship games.

The Tigers have multiple athletes participating in the state meet, including:

• Destiny Charles – 100m, 200m and 4×400
• Jatana Folston – 400m, 800m and 4×400
• Domanique Knowles – high jump, triple jump and 4×400
• Mia Lewis – 100 m hurdles and triple jump
• Daishon Spann – 100m Hurdle’s, 800m, high jump and 4×400
• Shanya Thomas – 200m and 4×400
• Ahmariah Edgecomb – 4×400 alternate
• Maggie Harp – 4×400 alternate

Other members of the Tigers track team include Summer Deveer, Ava Quatrocchi, Liana Tyson and Zoe Zalewski.

According to O’Reilly, the girls are “focused, locked in, and hungry to prove to everyone that the Cocoa High girls track program is an elite program.”

They have been training hard since October and appear ready for the meet Friday and Saturday in Jacksonville.

Folston says the girls don’t practice, they train – and, there’s a big difference.

“This team has done things that no other Tigers team has done,” said Folston.

Do they have one more big meet in them? Time will tell, but don’t bet against these Lady Tigers.
