Weather is 70 Percent Favorable for ULA Delta IV Launch From Cape Canaveral Thursday

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – United Launch Alliance has announced their next rocket launch from Cape Canaveral will be on Thursday, August 22.
The U.S. Air Force 45th Weather Squadron forecast currently gives the launch a 70 percent chance of favorable conditions at launch time Thursday morning at 9 a.m.
The Delta IV rocket will launch the Global Positioning System (GPS) 3-series satellite, built by Lockheed Martin, for the U.S. Air Force.
This satellite will be the U.S. Air Force’s second third-generation navigation satellite for the Global Positioning System.
GPS III SV02 will join GPS III SV01 (launched December 2018) and other operational global positioning systems satellites already in orbit. GPS delivers positioning, navigation and timing services supporting the United States and other operations.
GPS III SV02 will help bring higher power and more accurate signals that are harder to jam.
The satellite has been named “Magellan” after Ferdinand Magellan, the explorer who led the first expedition to circumnavigate Earth. This is the last opportunity to see the launch of Delta IV Medium rocket, as this is its final flight.
