Viera-Suntree Juniors Little League All-Stars Fall 12-5; Still Alive in World Series Play

The VSLL Junior All-Stars will face a team from Michigan in an elimination game at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

The Southeast Region, represented by the Viera-Suntree Little league Juniors, on Wednesday lost to a team from California by a 12-5 score during the Junior League Baseball World Series in Taylor, Michigan (Image by VSLL).

The Viera-Suntree Junior Little League All-Stars fell 12-5 to a team from California in the Junior Little League World Series in Taylor, Michigan on Wednesday. 

Viera-Suntree fell behind 8-0 after three innings, but the team responded scoring five runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut into the deficit.

California padded their lead with four runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to account for the remainder of the runs scored in the contest.

The team is still alive in the tournament. They’ll face a team from Michigan at 4 p.m. in an elimination game on Thursday. Should they win, they would advance to the U.S. Final on Friday to face California.

GAME RECAP: West Defeats Southeast Despite Allowing 5-Run Inning

Southeast scored five runs in the fourth inning, but West still won 12-5 on Wednesday. Blake StrodeCole SmithApollos HorrellLuc Iten, and Logan Keith each drove in runs during the inning.

West opened up scoring in the first inning, when Eric Jeon homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

West tallied four runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught came from a single by Bohdi Faulkner and a home run by Walker Calvo.

Russell Yang took the win for West. He went three and a third innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out three. Kyle Kim and Jeon entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Horrell took the loss for Southeast. He went one inning, allowing four runs on three hits, striking out one and walking one.

West socked two home runs on the day. Calvo went for the long ball in the sixth inning. Jeonwent deep in the first inning.

West totaled eight hits. DJ Garcia and Kim each racked up multiple hits for WestKim and Garcia each collected two hits to lead West.
