MATCH RECAP: Florida Tech Panthers Volleyball Team Sweep Florida Southern Mocs

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech volleyball cruised to a sweep of Florida Southern. Saturday night the Panthers won three straight sets, 25-15, 25-18, 25-21, to earn a Sunshine State Conference win. 

Florida Tech recorded 40 kills and a team hitting percentage of .264. Tech also earned 39 assists, six service aces, 12 blocks and 66 digs during the match out playing the Mocs in every category.

Junior Elena Ciulli was the kills leader for the Panthers (12). Ciulli recorded an attacking rate of .265 and two blocks during the match.

Jocelyn Garcia was the Panthers most effective attacker with eight kills on 16 attempts for a .438 hitting percentage. Audrey Keenan also had a good night for the Panthers collecting nine kills, two blocks and 10 digs on the night.

Sheila Villagrasa had another double-double game with 33 assists and 15 digs. The senior also had a pair of services aces to her credit.

Kyra Atkinson continues to play solid defense for the Panthers as she collected 23 digs in the match.

First Set

The Panthers set the tone early with a 4-1 point run over the Mocs. Florida Southern was able to tie the game up seven apiece with a four-point run. However, Tech rallied back with an impressive seven-point run over the Mocs.

Second Set 

Florida Tech again took an early 4-1 lead. Florida Tech and Florida Southern were going back and forth, but fortunately, Tech was able to pull away with a 9-4 point run to take the set.

Third Set

The Crimson and Gray fell behind early in the set but were able to recompose and take an 8-6 lead over the Mocs. Florida Southern did not give up and was able to make it a one-point game with a 4-2 rally. Tech was able to end the set with a 4-1 point run to sweep the Mocs.

The Panthers will head home as they host Barry University on Friday, October 4 at 7 p.m.
