Florida Tech Volleyball Concludes First Tournament of the Season

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Panthers concluded the first tournament of the season at Springhill Suites Invitational hosted by West Florida. Tech battled all weekend but unfortunately was unable to earn a win.

The Panthers played Western Washington (4-0) and Spring Hill (1-3).

Game One: Florida Tech vs #3 Western Washington

Florida Tech collected 40 kills on 133 attempts for a .135 team hitting percentage.

Sheila Villagrasa collected her first double-double of the season for the Crimson and Gray, grabbing 29 assists and 13 digs during the match.

Senior Audrey Keenan tallied 13 kills and a block assist during the match. Keenan’s 13 kills bested her season-high, which was eight.

Elena Ciulli was the Panthers most efficient attacker as she registered eight kills. Ciulli’s did so on 21 attempts for a .238 attacking rate.

Junior Christina Mayberry and Junior Jocelyn Garcia collected six kills apiece. Mayberry also had two assists and two blocks for the Panthers.

Game Two: Florida Tech vs Spring Hill

The Crimson and Gray collected 29 kills, 29 assists, two service aces, five blocks, and 56 digs.

Villagrasa continued her performance from the first match as she paced the offense with her second double-double of the day. She was credited with 21 assists and 15 digs.

Keenan was the kills leader for the Panthers. She tallied 10 kills and seven digs during the match.

Ciulli earned eight kills once again for the Panthers. She also was credited with a block and six digs during the match.

Up Next: The Panthers head to Fort Lauderdale for the Shark Invitational. The tournament will run from Sept. 13-14. The Crimson and Gray will first face Belmont Abbey College at 2 p.m.
