Former Space Coast Head Coach Matt Diesel Named Defensive Coordinator at Cocoa High School

Diesel was head coach for two seasons at Space Coast High School and posted a 10-10 record

Former Space Coast head football coach Matt Diesel, above left with his father Dan, has been named defensive coordinator at Cocoa High School. Diesel was at the helm of the Vipers’ football program for two years during which they posted a 10-10 overall regular-season record and showed improvement.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Former Space Coast head football coach Matt Diesel has been named defensive coordinator at Cocoa High School. 

Diesel was at the helm of the Vipers’ football program for two years during which they posted a 10-10 overall regular-season record and showed improvement.

“It was a tough, tough decision,” said Diesel, who praised the players, coaching staff and administration at Space Coast. “I had a great time there.”

Diesel said that changes in his professional life outside of football led him to resign as head coach earlier this month, though he knew he wanted to still coach football in some capacity.

Cocoa head football coach Ryan Schneider hired former Space Coast head coach Matt Diesel, as defensive coordinator. “I’m going to give everything I’ve got as defensive coordinator,” said Diesel.

The opportunity to do so came rather quickly following contact from Cocoa head football coach Ryan Schneider, about the defensive coordinator position and shortly after Diesel was on board.

“I’m going to give everything I’ve got as defensive coordinator,” Diesel added.

“I’m excited and truthfully I just can’t wait to get back to football.”

No replacement for Diesel at Space Coast as head coach has been announced.
