Soccer is by far the most popular sport in the world, drawing a massive following in all four corners of the globe. It does not only provide entertainment for the fans, it has been used as a unifying factor in a number of ways.
When someone said soccer was a language, it may not have been understood then, but from what has been happening around the world is a justification to those sentiments.
In the USA, it took time before establishing itself like it has in other parts of the world. But when it did, it became quite something, and now it is the fastest growing sport in the region.
Celebrated football icon David Beckham recently launched his soccer merchandise named Inter Miami, which is set to feature in Major League Soccer in a few years. But before then, we look at the most popular soccer teams in the USA at the moment.
#1. Seattle Sounders
Based in Seattle, Washington, the Sounders is the current leader of the US top tier MLS, and favorite with Betway88 to win it this year. #4. Real Salt Lake
Real Salt Lake is not among the oldest clubs in the USA, but it is slowly making an impact. Nicknamed Claret and Cobait, it plays home matches at the Rio Tinto Stadium in Saly Lake City, and is currently owned by Del Loy Hansen, who took the mantle from the previous owners who were awarded for their role in the expansion of MLS.
#5. Dallas
Founded in 1995 as Dallas Burn, the club joined the MLS in 1996, playing its home matches in Frisco, Texas. It is owned by Clark Hunt, and currently managed by the legendary Oscar Parejo. Among the soccer fans, it is known by the nickname Toros Hoops Burn.
US soccer is slowly coming out of the doldrums after big brands continue to show interest in the sport through massive sponsorship deals.
The import of big names in the sport has also played a significant role, for instance, the L.A Galaxy benefitted massively when English superstar David Beckham signed with them.
