While several programs have already established themselves among the best in the county and across Florida, others are looking to peak at the right time.
Baseball
The Merritt Island baseball team has still been very hot for the majority of the season, sitting at 20-3. The only in-county team to have given the Mustangs a run for their money was Melbourne. The Bulldogs gave the Mustangs their first loss of the season, and Merritt Island’s other losses came against two teams within the top 16 in the nation.

Viera (16-4) has emerged as another postseason contender. The Hawks consistently compete at a high level and remain a threat to reach the state semifinals, as they nearly did last season.
Softball
The Melbourne Bulldogs softball team sits at 16-1 and has continued to look like one of the best teams in the county and state of Florida. With just under ten games left in the season, the Bulldogs are hoping to end their season on a hot streak as Melbourne is playing like a state title contender.

Eau Gallie (13-3) has also positioned itself as a strong contender, focusing on consistency as it prepares for the FHSAA playoffs.
Astronaut (8-2) has quietly put together a solid campaign and will look to maintain its success as the season moves past the halfway point.
Girls Flag Football
The Space Coast Vipers girls’ flag football team has been stellar this season, at 9-1, their only loss came by one point against Satellite, who they defeated two weeks later by 25. With the FHSAA playoffs looming, the Vipers are hunting for a state championship.

Girls Beach Volleyball
Viera’s beach volleyball team remains undefeated at 8-0 and is ranked No. 38 nationally.
The Hawks have faced tough competition from Merritt Island, Bayside, and Satellite, but have won three of their last four matches in shutout fashion.
Satellite (9-3) has translated its strong indoor volleyball tradition to the sand, emerging as one of the more talented teams in Florida.
Merritt Island (8-3), long known for its successful volleyball programs, remains a contender and is looking to make a deep postseason run.
Boys and Girls Tennis
Edgewood’s boys’ team is undefeated at 14-0 and has dominated most opponents. Eau Gallie (14-1) is widely considered the second-best team in the county, with its only loss coming to Edgewood in a 7-0 match.
Holy Trinity (9-2) and Melbourne (8-3) have also posted strong seasons and could challenge top teams in the FHSAA playoffs.
On the girls’ side, West Shore is 13-2, with losses only to Melbourne and Florida Prep — two of the top teams in the area.
Melbourne holds a 12-1 record and has not lost to an in-county opponent. With the regular season concluded, both teams will be ones to watch in the postseason.
Boys and Girls Lacrosse
Holy Trinity’s boys lacrosse team has compiled a 10-3 record, with all three losses coming in close contests against out-of-county opponents.
Edgewood’s girls team is 10-2 and ranked among the top 20 teams in the state. Its only losses have come against powerhouse programs Oviedo and West Orange.
