UPDATE: Palm Bay Man Identified as Suspect in Fatal Shooting of FHP Trooper Joseph Bullock

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Authorities have released the identity of the suspect that shot and killed Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Joseph Bullock on Wednesday in Martin County.

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Franklin Reed III, of Palm Bay, Florida.

Trooper Bullock reportedly stopped his vehicle on the shoulder of I-95 to assist a motorist who was stranded on I-95. The motorist was later identified as Franklin Reed III.

The investigation has also revealed that a passing off-duty Riviera Beach police officer shot Reed shortly after Trooper Bullock was shot and killed. Reed died as a result from the shooting.

Florida Highway Patrol trooper Joseph Bullock was shot and killed by Franklin Reed III while in the line of duty on Interstate 95.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will continue their investigation into the shooting of Reed by the off-duty Riviera Beach Police Officer.

Trooper Bullock was assigned to Troop L and was a 19-year veteran of the FHP and also served in the Air Force.
