Father is suspected of causing the injuries that led to two-month-old’s death

SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY: On Tuesday, our great partners at the U.S. Marshals, along with the members of our GAMEOVER Task Force, arrested 27-year-old Donovan Winter of Volusia County on charges of Murder and Child Abuse.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – On Tuesday, our great partners at the U.S. Marshals, along with the members of our GAMEOVER Task Force, arrested 27-year-old Donovan Winter of Volusia County on charges of Murder and Child Abuse.

The investigation began on June 1, 2021, when deputies responded to a residence in Merritt Island where a two-month-old male victim was discovered deceased.

The victim was taken to the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy determined that the male victim had died from multiple blunt-impact head injuries.

After an extremely thorough investigation by our Homicide Unit, it was determined that Winter, who is the father of the decedent, was responsible for causing the injuries that led to the child’s death.

I want to thank Judge Steve Henderson for signing the warrant with charges of Felony Murder and Aggravated Child Abuse.

Winter is currently exactly where he should be, behind bars at the Brevard County Jail Complex on a No Bond status.

Of course, I want to thank our Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit for their incredible work on this case and the U.S. Marshals and GAMEOVER Task Force for another great arrest.

We are asking in anyone has additional information about this case, please contact Agent Vince Bustillo of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit at 321-633-8413 or by calling Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.
