BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – This week, kicked off “Public Safety Telecommunicator Appreciation Week” when as an agency and a community show our true appreciation for the amazing men and women who work behind the scenes to keep our Law Enforcement Officers and community safe.

National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, which is designated as a time to recognize the amazing work of our very own Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center as well as Telecommunicators throughout Brevard County.

These dedicated and amazing professionals not only handle the huge demand of incoming telephone calls for service through our agency but are also the lifeline for our agency members who respond to emergency calls and critical incidents each and every day.

When a critical incident is taking place, this highly qualified team not only work to keep our Deputies updated and safe but to also talk our citizens through the worst imaginable situations possible.

All too often we fail to realize just how essential this team of professionals are to our agency’s mission. Unfortunately, most don’t realize the concern and stress they feel when one of our team members is in harm’s way.

They must act and react from sounds and silence, with only the information they can hear on the radio.

On those terrible calls that we often pray will never happen, they wait on the other end of the radio trying to decipher through the chaos and translate the emotions, codes, and signals into a manageable situation.

Their job is certainly not an easy one, in fact, it is not a job that many people can do, but it is vital to protecting our community and each of them deserves our praise and gratitude for everything they do to keep us safe.

So this week I ask you to take a moment and thank our Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center and Team for all they do throughout the year to help protect our community and also to thank all of the Telecommunicators throughout Brevard County and across our great nation for their amazing work.
