10-Year Contract Will Bring More Than 60 New Jobs to the Area

On Oct. 1, Republic Services will begin providing waste and recycling collection services to residential and commercial customers throughout the City of Palm Bay. The new 10-year service contract with Republic Services is bringing more than 60 new jobs to the Palm Bay area.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – On Oct. 1, Republic Services will begin providing waste and recycling collection services to residential and commercial customers throughout the City of Palm Bay.

Republic Services was founded in Florida in 1989 and currently has nearly 1,400 employees across the state and provides service in Orlando, Tampa, Lakeland, Jacksonville, St. Johns County, Hernando County, Indian River County and Broward County.

The new 10-year service contract with Republic Services is bringing more than 60 new jobs to the Palm Bay area.

Republic Services will be serving approximately 41,000 residential and 700 commercial customers in Palm Bay.

Republic is replacing the City’s previous waste services provider of 30 years after its contract was not renewed by the City.

“Republic Services is proud to be the City of Palm Bay’s waste and recycling collection services partner going forward,” said Joanne Stanley, Republic Services municipal sales manager.

“Not only are we committed to providing world-class service to residents and business customers in Palm Bay, but we are also committed to becoming true community partners with the City.”

What Palm Bay Residents Can Expect:

■ Collection service schedules will be changing. Republic Services will provide residential customers with twice-a-week trash collection instead of once per week.
■ Customers will have the option to change an existing 64-gallon cart to either a smaller 35-gallon cart or a larger 96-gallon cart.
Recycling will be collected once a week.

Acceptable items have changed to Plastic #1 and #2, metal cans, aluminum, mixed paper and cardboard. Glass is not accepted.

Service also will include once-a-week yard waste and bulk trash pickup.

Residents will receive a postcard with their new service days. Customers also can go to the City of Palm Bay’s website, type in their address and find their updated schedule.
