Brevard Public Schools agreed to a new contract with the union for support staff, Local 1010 of the International Union of Painters & Allied Trades.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools agreed to a new contract with the union for support staff, Local 1010 of the International Union of Painters & Allied Trades.

The district values every support member and the contribution each of them makes toward student achievement.

That is why it is important to compensate them as fairly as possible, even during difficult economic times brought on by a pandemic.

The agreement will see eligible 1010 members receive a one-time bonus of $500. This will maximize employee compensation for the year and get the money into bank accounts much faster than a traditional salary increase.

Over the past two years, 1010 members agreed to a 2.3% raise in 2018-19 and a 3.9% raise in 2019-2020. But a lot has changed since the last contract was ratified in the fall of 2019.

COVID-19 has put a strain on just about every business, including the school district. A bonus this year will ensure the district remains fiscally responsible.

During the three negotiating sessions, BPS and the Local 1010 also agreed to:

• Five days of Parental Leave for new parents.
• Health benefits offered to employees working multiple part-time positions.
• Option of health insurance coverage plan that does not include a rate increase.

Next Steps

Local 1010 employees will vote to ratify the agreement at the end of February, the school board would then vote to approve the contract.
