BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police arrested a Rockledge man on Sunday after he tied a dog to a tree and shot it at Bracco Pond Park before leading police on a brief car chase.

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Isaiah Beavers from Rockledge.

The investigation began on Sunday when police first received a call from a witness who described a man had just shot a dog at Bracco Pond Park in Cocoa and was leaving the scene.

When police arrived near the scene, an officer spotted the vehicle and began the chase on the suspect’s red Hyundai SUV that was described by the witness.

During the chase, the suspect was seen throwing an item out of the SUV, according to a police officer who was attempting to initiate a traffic stop.

Eventually, Beavers stopped the vehicle and was ordered to exit the vehicle by police before he was placed under arrest.

Police later retrieved a Mossberg shotgun that was dumped by the suspect during the chase.

According to the police report, inside the chamber of the shotgun was a spent .410 gauge shotgun shell.

The report by police goes on to say, “Isaiah spontaneously told me that he and his girlfriend had been having some problems with the dog being aggressive and attempting to bite them, and they no longer wanted the dog. Isaiah then explained that he tied the dog to a tree and shot the dog with the intent of ending the dog’s life.”

Police say the dog had to be euthanized due to injuries it suffered.

Beavers has been charged with Animal Cruelty and is faced with a $52,000 bond.

Beavers also has extensive criminal history that dates back to 2009 with charges ranging from armed home robbery, battery domestic violence, solicit prostitution, dealing stolen property, petit theft, grand theft, contempt of court and driving with a suspended license.
