Brevard Sheriff’s Agents Arrest Woman After Leaving Two Dogs in U-Haul Truck That Died

If you leave your dogs for days in the back of a U-Haul truck and then try to hide their dead bodies in garbage bags you really deserve the same treatment. Sadly though locking you behind bars at the Brevard County Jail is the best we can legally do

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – While I always try to personally walk every animal abuser into the Brevard County Jail, my team got to this one before I could, after she left her two dogs in the back of a 15-foot U-Haul Box Truck for days and then paid someone to dispose of and hide the poor deceased pups.

Eugena Marie Blake was arrested earlier today on felony charges of Animal Cruelty by our Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit after evidence demonstrated that Blake left her two dogs, “Baby” and “Lucky” locked in crates in the rear portion of a 15 Foot U-Haul Box Truck for 4 days.

The incident took place after Blake was evicted from her apartment and used the U-Haul truck to move her possessions to a friend’s one-bedroom apartment where Blake later confessed to knowing she was not allowed to have dogs.

Blake subsequently left the two dogs inside the truck for four days while the temperature on the days the dogs were left in the rear of the truck averaged 87 degrees externally, with temperatures at times reaching 91 degrees.

On the fourth day, Blake requested that her daughter drive her in the U-Haul to a nearby establishment where she subsequently requested that an employee give her a garbage bag as her dog had died.

Further investigation revealed that Blake actually paid an acquaintance who was significantly struggling to provide for himself, approximately $20 to clean out the truck and dispose of the remains of the two dogs who had died as a result of animal cruelty after being left in the back of the truck for days.

The remains of the two dogs were discovered days later, actually still in their cages by a homeless citizen who contacted law enforcement after finding the extremely decomposed bodies of “Baby” and “Lucky.”

Agents from our Animal Cruelty Unit were able to positively identify “Baby” and “Lucky” and also obtain a confession from Blake about the condition of the two dogs and the events that led to their death.

Blake was arrested and transported to the Brevard County Jail on two felony counts of Animal Cruelty with a total bond of $4,000 and was also charged with Violation of Probation as she was currently on probation for previous criminal charges.

Thankfully, there was “No Bond” on the Violation of Probation charge, so Blake will be sitting in our jail which is exactly where she belongs.

This case absolutely disgusts me as there was no need for these two dogs to suffer and die at the hands of someone they trusted to take care of them.

I want to personally thank the gentleman who found “Baby” and “Lucky” for notifying law enforcement after he found the two dogs, and also Agent Jennifer Straight who conducted a very thorough investigation to make sure that justice is served for “Baby” and “Lucky!”
