2-1 Florida Gators Defeat Opens Women’s Soccer Season
By Space Coast Daily // August 26, 2021
Florida started the new soccer season in a spectacular way, particularly in women’s soccer. A 2-1 loss was what started the No.20 USF women’s soccer season. The Bulls took over the Gators, defeating them after picking off where they left off the previous year.
Therefore, fans of the Bulls can have some of the best sports betting if they keep following their team’s whereabouts after this wonderful performance.
What Happened?
On Thursday night, Florida Gators and the Bulls played inside Corbett Stadium. The Bulls ended up being victorious, with a score of 2-1 at the end.
The Gators’ old coach, Becky Burleigh, decided to retire last season, and now, they played under a new head coach, Tony Amato. This was their opportunity to break in the new head coach. From the first half of the match, things were pretty clear. The Gators were outshot 12-3 already by USF. In the 40th minute, USF managed to strike a goal through Chloe Zamiela, the senior transfer.
Later, in the 47th minute, the Gators also struck back. Kit Loferski was the one bringing a goal to the team. However, three minutes later, Madeleine Penman-Derstine from the Bulls struck a goal too, which is what allowed the team to win the game.
This wasn’t too surprising for fans of the Bulls, because they haven’t lost a game at home since September 29, 2019.
What Did the Gators Say After Their Defeat?
The Gators spoke about the match’s result.
“Definitely not the result we wanted.” said head coach Tony Amato. “South Florida played like a seasoned team that’s ranked in the top 20. They made it difficult for us. Some of the positives were that I thought Alexa (Goldberg) did a really good job in goal. Overall, the team grinded, worked hard, and found a way to get the goal after halftime. That was a great finish by Kit [Loferski] to come out of halftime and do that.”
Amato also admitted that there are things they still need to work on and that they need to “figure it all out”. Therefore, we may see big things from the Gators too in the future. “I don’t want to take too many moral victories out of it as we are trying to win and trying to get results. We’ve got some work to do but we saw where we are, and we’ll get to work tomorrow.” said the head coach.
Kit Loferski also spoke about how the goal was scored. She saw an open space behind the backline and that the keeper was off the line, so she hoped she could have the best shot ever. She also spoke about what will happen to the team after the match.
“We now have film and things we can learn from,” she said. “I have no doubts about the rest of the season. This is not by any means a setback. We will keep pushing forward and I’m excited for the rest of it.”
Keep an eye on the Gators and the Bulls as great things are about to come from them in the future.
