BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Electric vehicle drivers in our community have a lot to get charged up about during National Drive Electric Week, celebrated from Sept. 25 to Oct. 3.

EVs are gaining popularity, and it’s estimated that by 2025 one in four cars sold will be electric. Florida currently ranks second in the nation for EV registrations.

EVs are not just fun to drive, but they are better for the environment and less expensive to maintain than gas-powered vehicles. With federal and local financial incentives and more charging options on the road, it’s easier than ever to make the switch to an EV.

Now, Florida Power & Light Company wants to make it even more convenient for drivers to go electric with the FPL EVolution program.

The program is installing more than 1,000 electric vehicle charging ports throughout Florida, which will feature a series of fast chargers capable of powering up most batteries – including Teslas with an adaptor – in about 30 minutes.

Known as “range anxiety,” one common concern from those thinking about switching to an electric vehicle is whether they will be able to travel a significant distance and still be able to conveniently charge their cars. In Florida, FPL is helping alleviate that concern by increasing the availability of universal charging ports by 50%, which will bolster range confidence and allow Floridians to take longer road trips.

FPL is partnering with local organizations and companies to install Level 2 charging stations for both public and employee use on their premises to further drive the electrification of transportation in Florida. In addition, fast charging stations are located approximately every 50 miles along an 800-mile stretch of Florida’s major highways and corridors.

In Central Florida, the FPL EVolution program has recently added 14 charging locations, including fast chargers in Melbourne. More locations are scheduled to open in the near future.

FPL is always working on new and innovative ways to provide customers with the best, most reliable and affordable service.

Additional FPL EVolution program benefits include:

Dedicated parking spaces for electric vehicles

Enhanced charging experience with an easy-to-use app

More opportunities to charge in an evacuation

Continued reliability of the energy grid

While this initiative will increase the amount of charging stations across Florida, making it easier for Floridians to drive electric, it will also generate valuable data to help FPL ensure the continued reliability of the energy grid for all customers.

To find charging locations throughout the state, drivers can CLICK HERE, or download the FPL EVolution app for free. The app will route drivers to charging locations and help them find nearby amenities to enjoy while they power up.
