Peter DeCaprio: 7 Tips to Protect You From Cyber Attack Could Help the Cubs Win the World Series

By  //  November 17, 2021

The Cubs are clearly poised to make a run at the World Series this year. Even though they fell off from their blazing hot start, there is no doubt that they have been playing better lately. How can you help contribute to a World Series title?

By following these 7 tips on how to stay cyber secure and safe! – Peter DeCaprio

1) Use strong passwords –

Keep your password at ten characters or greater with a mix of upper case, lower case, special symbols and numbers. This will help ensure that hackers will not be able to guess your password for your email, Skype or any other accounts you have online. It’s also recommended not choose common words as your password. You should not use the same password for every site because if one site gets hacked, your other accounts could be compromised as well.

2) Don’t click on suspicious links –

If you receive a link from a friend and it looks suspicious, don’t click on it! It could expose your computer to viruses or malware that could steal personal information. You can avoid this by hovering over the link with your mouse to see where the link goes before clicking on it.

3) Install antivirus software –

One of the best ways to protect yourself online is through installing antivirus software on all of your devices. Make sure you have an antivirus program that offers real time protection as hackers are always finding new threats that try to take advantage of security flaws. You can also use software like Malware Bytes, which is freely available and offers protection against many types of malicious software including viruses, spyware and malware.

4) Beware of phishing attacks –

Be very wary of clicks on email links that look suspicious. If you receive an email from someone claiming they are from PayPal asking if you want to update your account information, don’t click or give them any personal information! These emails are known as “phishing” emails because the goal is to get you to click on the link and visit a fake website that resembles real company websites.

These fake websites will ask for your login information and once its submitted hackers will have access to your online accounts. To protect yourself watch what you click on and double check the URL in your browser to make sure it’s the site you think it is.

5) Watch out for fake updates –

Fake software updates are frequently used in phishing attacks because many people will trust them, especially if they were prompted by their device. For example, fake iOS 9 software was released that claimed to fix bugs in older iPhones but instead installed malware onto victim’s devices when they clicked on the update!

If an update looks suspicious or odd- do not install it! You can avoid this issue by making sure all of your software is updated regularly through the actual created company for an app or game. If there is no official website available than be wary of installing any updates unless you did a quick Google search first.

6) Hide your IP Address –

If you want to browse the internet anonymously, you can hide your IP address by using a VPN (virtual private network). A VPN will mask your real IP address and replace it with a virtual one that is shared by other people who use the same service. This makes it harder for companies or hackers to track you down as most rely on your IP address to do so.

Be aware that not all VPNs are equal in quality, some have been known to sell user information and allow hackers access to their networks. As with everything else security related, do your research before choosing a VPN provider!

7) Watch out for public WiFi –

Using public WiFi opens you up to many types of attacks including credit card skimming and what’s called a “man in the middle attack.” A man in the middle attack is when hackers set up an unsecured WiFi network that overlaps with a secured one, like the ones you frequently see at coffee shops or restaurants.

Hackers will then track your digital information and use it to their advantage. This could be as simple as stealing your identity by putting in fraudulent credit card transactions for online shopping or obtaining access to your social media accounts by logging into them while you input your username and password. You can protect yourself from this type of attack by staying off public WiFi unless absolutely necessary and using a VPN when on public WiFi networks, just like we mentioned earlier!

Conclusion:

As per Peter DeCaprio the Cubs are currently in 1st place in the National League Central division with a record of 26-14. They are looking to build upon their momentum after winning the National League wildcard game last season. The 17 ways you can protect yourself from cyber attack could help them get one step closer to winning the World Series!!
