Brevard County Charter Review Commission to Host Meeting Jan. 6 to Examine Home Rule Charter

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The public is invited to attend the upcoming meeting of the 2021-2022 Brevard County Charter Review Commission, which will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6 at the Brevard County Government Center, Building C, 3rd Floor, Florida Room in Viera.
The Brevard County Home Rule Charter requires that every six years a Charter Review Commission be appointed for the purposes of reviewing the existing Charter.
The Charter Review Commission is made up of 15 members, three appointees from each of the Brevard County Commissioners to represent their Commission Districts including District 1 – Robin Fisher, Kendall Moore and Marcia Newell; District 2 – Mike Haridopolos, Marie Rogerson and Blaise Trettis; District 3 – Matt Nye, Billy Prasad and Bob White; District 4 – Tom Jenkins, Cole Oliver, Sue Schmitt; District 5 – Jordin Chandler, Dave Neuman and Vic Luebker.
The Commission has elected Haridopolos as the Chair.

The Charter Review Commission is scheduled to meet on a regular basis until its sunset date of Aug. 12, 2022.
If any individual, group, or organization has a desire to comment on the Charter or offer any amendments, you may appear before the Charter Review Commission during Public Comment at any of the scheduled meetings.
Due to input and proposals from the public, there were three adopted amendments to the charter in November of 2010.
Those items were: Charter Amendments Affecting Municipalities (Section 1.8), Citizens process for advising the County Commission (Section 2.9.10), and Analysis of fiscal impact or proposed charter amendment (Section 7.4.2).
