BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The City of Palm Bay kicks off the new year with the demolition of Palm Bay’s former Fire Station #1, located at 2144 Palm Bay Road.

Demolition is scheduled to begin during the first week of January.

Palm Bay Fire Rescue proposed the demolition and remediation of this site with funding from FY 2020-2021 Community Development Block Grant to make way for a future Fire Station #7 to meet the growing needs of the northeast quadrant of Palm Bay.

The Community Development Advisory Board recommended the award of CDBG funding, which was subsequently approved by Palm Bay City Council at June 18, 2020, Regular Council Meeting.

The former fire station site has remained vacant for eight years and is an eligible project under the U.S. Housing & Urban Development regulations under public facility improvements located in and providing a public service to an area of low- and moderate-income residents.

The total funding for the project is $88,611, including engineering and demolition costs.

The estimated time for demolition is approximately three weeks, with the long-term plan to replace the fire station with a new three-bay station. Design and development of the future Fire Station #7 are slated for 2022, with a possible 2023 construction start date.
