Cisco DevNet is Cisco’s developer program to help developers and Networking professionals who want to write applications and develop integrations with Cisco system’s products, and platforms using their APIs.

Cisco DevNet includes Cisco’s products in software-defined networking, security, cloud, data center, wireless, collaboration, and open-source software development.

DEVNET Associate is the first level of Cisco’s DEVNET exam, which was announced on June 9th – 2019.

There are many popular certificates today. Many people have been giving importance to the Cloud certifications for a reason, but we believe that any Network Engineer can get quite benefit from the Cisco Devnet certificate even if they don’t attend the exam, preparation makes them better IT engineer.

What DEVNET Associate Exam cover?

There is multiple DEVNET exams in the Cisco exam portfolio.

Devnet Associate is the first step in that hierarchy, then you will see DEVNET Professional which contains so many exams inside it.

DevNet skill set can be broken down into five domains of knowledge.

1. Network Fundamentals (protocols, devices, connectivity options up/down the TCP/IP stack including knowledge of Linux)

2. Programming Skills (primarily Python)

3. DevOps Tools (CICD, SCM’s such as Git, etc.)

4. Infrastructure APIs (obviously, every vendor has their own so the DevNet program focuses on Cisco)

5. Application development (or Integrations) and Deployment lifecycle

Cisco DEVNET is not just a Certification but it is a community!

Cisco DevNet is a community for software developers that develop APIs to be used on a product in the networks.

DEVNET  provides developers, with the tools, the resources, and the code you need to build required software.
it’s a great way to learn new technologies and create working applications, by taking the help of thousands of individuals as well.
If you want to automate the network or learn about SDN, Wireless, Datacenter, or even an IoT automation, then this is the place that you can use to learn more about it.

This is the place where you can ask questions related to coding, programmability, and network automation and can get a lot of help. It provides training, documentation, toolkits, sandboxes, and community forums to help increase your development work.

DevNET Associate is a CCNA level exam, focused on Network programming mainly though.

While it does test for the kind of knowledge one would expect out of the CCNA curriculum, it is more concerned overall with concepts like Python, REST, model-driven programmability, containers, and other modern aspects of network engineering.

The DevNet Associate exam does cover network engineering basics but concerns itself more with the evolving programmatic paradigms of network management.

It assumes network engineers already have a certain level of knowledge about networks and doesn’t go as deep into pure networking as it does into other concepts.

There is a quite nice and popular course on for Devnet Associate exam preparation that we recommend our readers to look at.
