Cocoa Beach Karate School Hosts Major Annual Event at Cocoa Beach Health & Fitness

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Cocoa Beach Karate School just hosted the annual Soke Takayoshi again Memorial event drawing high level karate practitioners from as far as Puerto Rico, Arizona, Illinois, Ohio, Virginia and all over Florida.
The event was held at the home dojo of Cocoa Beach Karate located at Cocoa Beach Health & Fitness.
The purpose of the annual gathering of Matsubayashi-Ryu karate students is to honor Soke Nagamine (1945-2012) who was the son of the founder of the style and head of the World Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate Assoc. He visited Cocoa and Cocoa Beach several times to teach seminars, the last being in 2011.
The annual gathering of high ranked Matsubayashi karate practitioners includes two days of training at Cocoa Beach Karate Dojo where students perform the traditional kata together and also each dojo represented demonstrates kata from their dojo with their students.
“It is a great honor to be ablate host this event here in Cocoa Beach to honor this great karate man by getting together with fellow like-minded karate practitioners to train for a weekend,” said Sensei Des Chaskelson, head sensei of Cocoa Beach Karate.
“We look forward to hosting more such events in the future and to continue our mission to bring the benefits of body, mind and spirit training to the local kids, teens and adults here in Cocoa Beach.”
Sensei Chaskelson began his karate training in New York in 1987 and founded Cocoa Beach Karate Dojo in 2002 when removed down here. He is a 6th degree black belt authorized by the World Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate Assoc. in Okinawa, Japan.
He also runs the popular assault prevention and self defense seminars with the Cocoa Beach Police Department as part of the dojo’s community service mission.
Classes are conducted at Cocoa Beach Health & Fitness on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 5:30 p.m. for kids, teens and adults.
“We teach kids, teens and adults and families not only self defense but also discipline, respect and proper behavior,” said Sensei Des Chaskelson. “All are welcome. Beginners encouraged to come give it a try at the free trail class.”
