BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The City of Palm Bay cleaned up 988 pounds of garbage during Marine Resources Council International Coastal Cleanup Day.

Participants helped clean up 988 pounds of garbage along the shores of Castaway Point Park and the Turkey Creek Sanctuary to help clean up the lagoon.

The International Coastal Cleanup began more than 30 years ago when communities rallied together with the common goal of collecting and documenting the trash littering their coastline.

By providing detailed, standardized data on paper data cards, or electronically through the Clean Swell app, volunteers gather valuable information about the types and sources of debris found.

New this year is the #152andYou challenge based on a Keep America Beautiful study that if everyone made the individual action of picking up 152 pieces of litter (all at once), there would be no litter on the ground unless someone littered again.
