Football is the most popular sport in Iowa

Football is the most popular sport to be watched according to a survey ran in 2019 by USDirect. Ranking showed that American football is the favorite one according to three main metrics used in the survey.

The three main metrics where used to determine a ranking between several sports and define which was the favorite. 

The sports measured were baseball, basketball, golf, hockey, football, skiing, tennis, and soccer. American football came on top of this list. In fact, there are two college teams that are broadly supported by the Iowa population: the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones.

It was also discovered with the survey results that Iowa, which was positioned slightly behind Wisconsin and ahead of Minnesota in the region, was ranked 10th overall among the 50 states.

Favorite football teams followed in Iowa

Since there are no professional sports teams established in Iowa, as was previously said, residents often choose whom they support based on a variety of different factors. Consequently, several different NFL clubs have emerged as being quite well-liked by sports fans.

The head coach is T. J. Otzelberger as of March 2021. His first triumph came in March 2022 when the Cyclone defeated one of their toughest rivals, Texas Tech, by a score of 20–12.

Other popular sports in Iowa

The opportunity for students to participate in sports including football, basketball, softball, baseball, track and field, cross-country, gymnastics, wrestling, golf, voleyball, swimming, soccer, and tennis has always been provided by colleges and high schools in Iowa. Their appeal to many locals will probably have been impacted by this.
