TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Tigers claimed their 5th state title in school history after defeating the Florida State University High School Seminoles in overtime 38-31 at the 2022 FHSAA Class 2S State Championship at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee on Friday.
This back-and-forth matchup lived up to the hype of a state championship game with consistent scoring, numerous lead changes, and an overtime shootout.
Cocoa’s scoring came in a variety of ways. Quarterback Blake Boda and receivers Day Day Farmer, and CJ Bragg each had a touchdown. Senior cornerback Caleb Dobbs came up with a game-changing pick-6 in the second half.
Cocoa Head Coach Ryan Schneider won his first state championship as head coach of the Tigers.
This becomes Cocoa High School’s fifth state championship in school history and the first since 2016.
The Tigers were able to redeem themselves this season after falling short during last year’s title run.
