Authorities say at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Friday, the Titusville Fire Department, with assistance from Brevard County Fire Rescue, responded to Emerald Place Apartments located at 1005 Tree Lane for the report of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke and fire was noted from the roof. While completing a 360 of the building, the fire was also noted to be coming from a balcony on the second floor, in addition to heavy smoke.

Brevard County Fire Rescue District 20 assumed command. Rescue 13 arrived with District 20 and performed a primary survey of the second-floor apartments to ensure that no one was inside while being met with heavy smoke conditions and fire overhead.

Two hose lines were stretched for fire attack, with knockdown on the fire made after several minutes.

Due to the location and extent of the fire, extensive overhaul is needed. Personnel will be on scene for some time performing salvage and overhaul.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and the State Fire Marshal is on the scene investigating. One dog was removed from the building and reunited with the owners.

No injuries were reported and no extension to other buildings.
